2012 Re-Read Read-A-Thon: Cancelled.

I'm sad to say that I am cancelling the Re-Read Read-A-Thon for this weekend (July 20-23). Perhaps it wasn't set up for a good time, or there's just not enough re-readers out there, but there didn't seem to be much interest. This is perfectly okay so no worries! Bloggers learn this way on which ideas work and which don't. I would love to host some kind of themed event sometime but it's going to take a while and some ideas to get it all rolling together. :)

Nonetheless, a big thanks anyway to the few who were interested. I'm still going to spend the weekend re-reading a few old favorites. If you'd like to join me, go right ahead. No giveaways or huge event, but discussions may be fun.

Here's one of the questions I was going to use for a mini challenge. Feel free to still use it this weekend by answering it on your blog. If you do, drop by here and let me know so I can come visit!

What's the one book you can never get tired of re-reading and why?

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Update

Today is the final day of the read-a-thon! I should probably be more in gear....Um... I'm afraid to say that I don't think I've quite met all the goals I wanted to, but at least I made some progress!

I made the majority of my updates through Twitter and participated in one mini-challenge (which only required me to fill out a form) on Between The Pages

So far I've finished three books and just started two. I doubt I'll come close to finishing the two I've started today. It's no worries though, the read-a-thon has completely helped me catch up on some of my reading and gave me a bit of a boost.

Books finished:

Graceling
The Radleys
Throne of Glass

(P.S. Happily found that I really enjoyed all three of those, so that's a great bonus!)

Books started:

Darkest Mercy
Masque of Red Death

That's about it for my update! Anything else before it's officially over will probably be mentioned on my Twitter. Another great year, and I'm looking forward to the next! :)

Happy reading!

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon (The "Plan")

Last year, I participated and I loved it. It helps motivate me to catch back up on my reading because I'm usually a little bit behind around this time of year (odd, right?). I can't believe I'd almost forgot but thankfully to some friends' tweets and seeing some posts in my reader, I was reminded. So, once again, I'm participating in the Once Upon a Read-A-Thon and here's my plan--though I can't confirm that I'll be able to actually see it entirely through. I'm going to try to get most of it done at least.

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
2. Graceling by Kristin Cashore (currently reading so this is just one I'm hoping to finish during the read-a-thon)
3. The Radleys by Matt Haig
4. Masque of Red Death by Bethany Griffin
5. Darkest Mercy by Melissa Marr
6. (End with starting) Kissing Shakespeare by Pamela Mingle

Click on the image below if you want to sign up and participate as well! It's a lot of fun!

Re-Read Read-A-Thon

stackofbooks

This 2012 Re-Read Read-A-Thon is hosted by me. Please feel free to use the above image during participation on your blogs and sites, but I ask that you link back to my blog. Thanks.

Many of you know (just by looking at the sidebar) that I am hosting a re-read challenge this year for anyone who wants to pick up old favorites, books that haven't been read in ages, etc. You can find out more about it in the pages' tab if you're new to the idea and want to learn more. I love rereading books. Of course, they're usually a certain value of sentiment to get that special spot. This year, I've reserved it for a couple of books that I didn't quite like so well within the last few years, but may have possibly changed my mind since then. It's happened before, and on rare occasions I do give second chances. Only if there's something in it that tells me I should.

All that aside, my year has been insane. I admit to falling a bit behind on my blogging--and I'm even a little behind on my reading. I have some serious catch up to do. As the host of this challenge, I also want to show support.

So, starting on July 20th through July 23rd, there's going to be a Re-Read Read-A-Thon (try saying that three times fast). During this read-a-thon, there's going to be live tweeting at my account (@addiction2books) of discussions of the re-reads we're picking up for that weekend, mini challenges here at the blog that you're welcome to participate in at your own blog, and a couple of giveaways. I hope you'll join in!

More info and discussion on this as the date gets closer to the read-a-thon.

Thanks! :)

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Final Update

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

As the Read-A-Thon comes to a close, I'd like to make a final update to post everything that I've completed/read during the time.

Unfortunately, I didn't quite meet my goals- LoL- but, I did complete two books (one wasn't on my originally intended list for the Read-A-Thon, but no matter, right?!) and I still got quite a lot of reading done that will have me completing a few books by the end of the week/weekend. So not bad at all, I would say!

What I accomplished during the Read-A-Thon:

*Completed A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies
*Completed Blue Is For Nightmares by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Halfway through Betrayed by P.C. & Kristin Cast (167 pages)
Halfway through Eve by Anna Carey (125 pages)
100 pages into Glimmerglass by Jenna Black
60 pages into The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
Halfway through Everything We Ever Wanted by Sara Shepard (140 pages)-- This is one I had already been reading before the Read-A-Thon, though.
Halfway through How Huge The Night by Heather & Lydia Munn (160 pages)-- Another one that I had already been reading before the Read-A-Thon as well.

Also on a small note, I turned the Read-A-Thon into something even more fun for me as a writer. For every 100 pages I read, I wrote 1,000 words. So, it became a Read-A-Thon AND a Write-A-Thon. Was very enjoyable. ;)

It's been fun!

Hope everyone else who has participated in the Read-A-Thon has had a good time. ^^

Mini Challenge (2) - Once Upon A Read-A-Thon

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

This Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Mini Challenge is hosted by YA Bliss.

“Top 3 LOVE TRIANGLES

In my opinion, a well done love triangle should be one where the choice is not clear, where you can't help but being torn yourself between both characters and you are uncertain as to which will end up being 'the one'. So if you were, lets say Team Mr. Obvious from book 1, and he ended up getting the girl and you were stoked about it because you hated Mr. Wrong all along, that is NOT a good love-triangle. That is merely A love-triangle. Got it? -- YA Bliss

My top three picks:

Dimitri vs. Adrian - Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
Jack vs. Oliver - Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz
Gale vs. Peeta - Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins

P.S. I almost chose a fourth- Derek vs. Lucas (The Shadow Falls series by C. C. Hunter) but then I had to stop and think. I’ve been all for Lucas since the first page he was introduced. Plus, there’s only one book out so far, so I need to see where this all goes before I make my final decision. So, I guess that one didn’t really fit here. :P

Great mini-challenge!

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Mini Challenge

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

This Mini Challenge for the Read-A-Thon is brought to you by Baily at IB Book Blogging!

Mini Challenge Question 1:
What is your favorite type of myth (Greek, Roman, Egyptian etc)?

My favorite type of mythology consists of two actually. I love both Celtic mythology and Egyptian. Recently, I've taken more interest into Roman and Greek... I've always had a small interest in those, just not quite as high up there I guess, because those seem to be more common mythology studies. I'm a HUGE history geek. *blush*

Mini Challenge Question 2:
What is your favorite book with some type of mythology in it?

Hmm... I'd have to say one of my favorites was a non-fiction book called "Ancient Egypt: Kingdom of the Pharaohs" by Robert Hamilton. It had a lot of information in that. Was kind of boring since it was non-fiction and didn't have a story to it at all... it's a history text and looks pretty on my shelf to basically sum it up. LoL. But for some reason, I still really liked it at the same time. As I said, I'm a big history geek. So, I guess it satisfied that side of me. :P

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Challenge

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

This is a challenge hosted by Angela at Reading Angel, Lori at Pure Imagination, and Candace at Candace's Book Blog.

I just learned of this challenge, but found it intriguing. And well.. I like good challenges. Plus, there's some nice swag and prizes involved, so I thought I'd give it a shot. :P
I hope some of you will join me in this great challenge! It's a sure way to knock out some books on that TBR pile, too.

So, here's Read-A-Thon Update #1.

My chosen books to read for the Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Challenge:

Betrayed by P.C. & Kristin Cast
Blue Is For Nightmares by Laurie Faria Stolarz
(additional challenge)To have at least 100 pages or more read in A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

My challenge is to have "Betrayed" and "Blue Is For Nightmares" both finished during the Read-A-Thon, and to have at least 100 pages read in "A Game of Thrones"... all the while, I'm also reading three other books, but on my own time. So. Who's ready for a serious reading spree?! :D

Happy reading!
