Sound Effects #6

If Book Blurbs Were Lyrics

Hello and welcome back to Sound Effects! This week I’m doing something a little new as you can see from the title above. I’ll post in this style on occasion to mix it up among my other posts with this feature. I thought it would be fun to try and figure out first interpretations of a book blurb through lyrics. So let’s see what we get here?

The book I’m featuring this week:

Vicious by Victoria Schwab! Of course I haven’t read this one yet. It’s on my dying-to-read list. And I can’t wait until September when it releases and I can run out to the store to pick up my copy. It sounds amazing. Check it out at Goodreads here.

First Lyrics To Mind:
I’m Your Villain by Franz Ferdinand

I know what I am
And I’m your villain
Although I don’t give a damn if
I’m your villain
Because serious
You’re so serious.

What lyrics come to your mind first when reading the blurb for Vicious?

(If Book Blurbs Were Lyrics was semi-inspired after web surfing across a blog a few weeks ago that'd had two topics discussing "If Blurbs Were Alternative Lyrics" and "If Blurbs Were Hip Hop Lyrics". The idea sparked for me a few days later, but I didn't take note of the blog to cite it unfortunately... However, I'd like to say that it's not quite an all-original idea of mine, but has my own twist. Just wanted to let my followers know!)

Sound Effects #5

Welcome to this week’s Sound Effects! Or rather…welcome back to Sound Effects! Haha! I stopped the feature for a bit, but recently decided I missed it and have started it back up again. :D

This week’s feature:

In the After!

Of course, my first thought for a song choice was this one:

Why? Well, because this is a post-apocalyptic read, and most of the time when I’m reading a post-apoc, for some strange reason this is the first song that pops into my head. It is pretty fitting for the situations though, I must say. Ha. Good song, too. So I’m not complaining.

Shakespeare Month Read-A-Long: Macbeth

The first week of Shakespeare Month focused on Macbeth and we (Thoughts of an Endless Dreamer and I) are wrapping this one up and getting ready to move on to the next one.

Macbeth has always been considered one of Shakespeare’s darkest and most powerful when it comes to his tragedies due to the politics and psychological intensity. It’s also one of his shorter plays, though still impacting with stand-out, memorable characters and a plot filled with chaos. (To be fair and add in a quick thought, I always have had an opinion that Macbeth was one of Shakespeare’s weaker ‘villains’ though. Lady Macbeth was perhaps the real troublemaker here, but that’s probably just me.)

My favorite portion of the play would have to be Act 5 because it’s the darkest and saddest, with the most thought-provoking lines. Most particularly, Act 5: Scene 5, after Macbeth hears of Lady Macbeth’s death and gives the Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow speech.

Oh look, it’s Patrick Stewart delivering the Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow speech. Love. <3 So what if it’s from the modernized movie. It’s still Patrick Stewart and he delivers that speech amazingly.

That’s it for today’s edition. Onto the next play for us! I do believe we’re starting Much Ado now if I’m not mistaken. :D

Sound Effects #4

Welcome to this week’s Sound Effects! I’m actually reading several books at once right now, but for this week I’ll just pick one to feature for the post. Some other time when I’m reading multiple books, I’ll showcase them all. :)

This week’s feature:

This song immediately got stuck in my head within a few pages of the book. Then later a quote helped even more:

“The blitz didn’t work like they said, you know. The zombies lied, just like they lie about everything else.” --Sarah

Have you read this book? What did you think?

Sound Effects #3

Welcome to this week’s Sound Effects! Since it’s fairly new still, if you missed it before and would like to know what all this is about, just go to this post.

Right now I’m currently reading:

Well, of course this isn’t just any book. This is a modern re-telling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. I’m surprisingly enjoying this read quite a lot so far and can’t wait to share my thoughts with everyone when I’m finished! There was only one song I could think of to pair up with this title--and it’s probably rather fitting from Ophelia’s PoV.

This one made me think of two so far actually. One an instrumental for the creepy side of things (and it’s freaking insanely creepy--I can barely read this real late at night--haha), and the other just because, well, the title says it all. :p

Sound Effects #1

Welcome to my new feature on the blog: Sound Effects!

How is this going to work? Well sometimes when I’m reading a book, I get a song or a clip from another character stuck in my head. So I figured this might be a neat way to showcase this---or it could be odd---I don’t know. You be the judge. Anyways, every week (most likely one of the weekend days like a Saturday or Sunday), I’ll put up Sound Effects. This will feature that moment’s current read and either a song I find fitting or a movie/television clip below the book cover.

Hope you enjoy this new addition to the blog! Also, side note, it will get a bit more organized with time I’m sure. Haha! :)

Right now I’m currently reading:

I'm not as immersed in this book as I'd hoped to be, but it has a gorgeous cover with a setting that I long to visit one day, too. And it also makes me think of this which calms me:
