2013 Reading Progress-- So Far

Usually I make a post around the start of July to share my halfway point of the year when it comes to my reading progress of the year. Obviously I’m a bit late this year. Ha. But that’s okay… better late than never! This reading year hasn’t been too bad so far. There’s been some ups and downs, several new favorites. My goal is unfortunately on the low side this year compared to last due to time restraints--and the majority of my reads this year have been on the longer side, too.

So let’s get started on progress list shall we?

Books read:

47 (of intended 55 book goal)

Reviews Written in 2013:

38 -- I know there were a few DNF reads I didn’t review on the blog. There was a sequel read I hadn’t reviewed yet and just realized (will have to fix that), and some reads were re-reads during a feature so they didn’t get an official review. My review count is always slightly lower than my reading count.

Favorites of 2013:

Just One Day, Warm Bodies, The Indigo Spell, Monsters, Crown of Midnight, and The Coldest Girl in Coldtown.

Longest Book Read:

821 pages (Monsters by Ilsa J. Bick). Second longest: Eye of the World (Wheel of Time #1), just over 690 pages in my copy. That print was so tiny. O_o

Books I Marked as DNF:

Joyland, Sylo, Indigo Awakening, and City of Dark Magic

Worst Characters I’ve Read This Year:

Dinner With A Vampire (The Dark Heroine).

Most Kick-Ass Heroine:

It's a toss up between Alex (Monsters), Allison (The Eternity Cure), and Celaena (Crown of Midnight). I love my tough gals. :)

Swoon-worthy Guy?

Gavriel (The Coldest Girl in Coldtown). Even if he is a little, erm, moody.

A Favorite Scene:

A moment in The Coldest Girl in Coldtown that showed how determined and full of fight Tana was. So what if she’d built somewhat of a friendship with this girl? There was danger, and she was surviving, and I liked how gritty and real that scene was portrayed. Not going into much detail other than that. Haha. Another favorite scene came from Monsters that had me nearly shouting in joy, but I really can’t give any detail at all because it’s quite spoilery.

Best Couple of the Year (So Far):

This is where it gets tough! I am totally shipping Adrian and Sydney (The Indigo Spell, Bloodlines #3 --even though I know many who don’t…oh well, I think they’re adorbs). But I also REALLY loved the resulting couple in The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, and as much as I’m Team Dorian, Celaena and Chaol do have moments in Crown of Midnight that almost made me rethink my side. Ha. Willem and Allyson from Just One Day--even if it was a short-lived romance. Oh! And another unforgettable couple for me earlier this year was Margo and Oliver in The Art of Wishing (adorable!). Obviously I had all the feels already this year. Bahaha.. Best Couple may have to be a pick at the end of the year when I have more time to think. :P

Favorite Covers of 2013 (of books I’ve read--whether I enjoyed the book or not):

How My Summer Went Up In Flames, Monsters, The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, Strands of Bronze and Gold, Tumble & Fall, Joyland, A Wounded Name, The Art of Wishing, and Rush.

Books Planned To Read Before December:

Shadow & Bone
Amelia Anne Is Dead & Gone
Carnival of Souls
Will Grayson, Will Grayson
Grave Mercy
For Darkness Shows the Stars

Currently Reading:

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning. STARTING Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson this weekend as well. ^_^

Re-Reads of 2013:

Macbeth, Othello, and Much Ado for a Shakespeare Month feature in April.

I would like to try and make most of November and December dedicated to re-reading some favorites like The Hunger Games, Wicked Lovely and/or Daughter of Smoke & Bone if I could. I love revisiting my faves from time to time, and there are some I haven’t because I haven’t had the time in a couple years. So I’d like to start taking a couple times a year to make it happen hopefully.

Most Anticipated Books As of This Moment (To be released in 2013):

All Our Yesterdays
These Broken Stars
The Burning Sky
Vicious
Desert Tales: A Wicked Lovely Companion Novel
Just One Year

Will make End-Of-Year update to see where I stand officially on everything around mid-December! I’m actually a little ashamed of the above numbers now that I look at them. Last year I read nearly 130 books. Now look, half that. Ugh. But I knew it was going to be a busy year and I had to set myself low so I wouldn’t feel pressured. And I do feel better about that now. It’s been much more relaxing. Next year I’ll get around to more reading because I’ll have more time on my hands (and I already have many books on my shelf that would be waiting).

What would you say is your favorite book of 2013 so far? How are you doing with the reading goals you’ve set?

  2. Amazing! You've read so many books. I must confess I only read 6 since the beginning of the year :(
