Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted at The Broke and Bookish.
This week's topic:
Top Ten Books Perfect For Reading Around Halloween
**These are not in any particular order either**
1. Let Me In (Also known as “Let The Right One In”) by John Lindqvist. Creepy, disgusting, haunting, oddly beautiful. This is a great horror tale for Halloween reading.
2. I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. It is not like the movie! Far from it in fact. So if you’ve seen the movie with the fabulous Will Smith- and don’t get me wrong, it was a good one- but haven’t read the book, it’s a must.
3. The Sookie Stackhouse books/True Blood. Fitting and fun for this time of year. Mmm.. Eric. Oh, pardon me. I need to read more of these myself. Haha.
4. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. In fact, toss Coraline in there too.
5. Stephen King. That’s right, I only listed the author’s name here. Take your pick on one of his many fantastic creepy horror reads. King is one of my all time favorites and some great Halloween reads I’d recommend would be Carrie, It, Pet Semetary, The Shining, and Misery. My personal favorite is The Shining.
6. Classics- Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Edgar Allan Poe.
7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer- the graphic novel series. No one can take better care of those nasties than Buffy!
8. Zombie books. Who doesn’t love a good zombie apocalypse? I recommend Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel, Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick, or Dead of Night by Jonathan Maberry. Okay, okay… so I cheated a little on this one. I didn’t know which out of the three I wanted to choose to put up because I liked them all. Zombies!
9. The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine. Watch out though… once you enter Morganville, there’s no exit. I love the vampires crafted for this series.
10. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. The photos alone are a bit haunting.
And while this isn’t included in the list, I want to take a moment and give a big shout-out to R.L. Stine!
I devoured so many Goosebumps’ books as a kid even while I was reading Stephen King and Anne Rice that it was unreal. Loved those books!
Are you dressing up for Halloween?
I don’t think I’ll have anywhere to go this year but I still usually play dress up anyway. A zombie pixie sounds nice… or maybe the mad hatter. Hmm. This is my favorite time of year! :)
Nice list!! Looks like you touched on everything!

I haven't read any of these! This was such a hard topic for me this week!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Buffy but I haven't picked up any of the graphic novels yet. And to answer your question, I don't think I am dressing up, since I'm pretty sure I'm not going to any parties. If something comes up last minute, I'll re-use one of my old costumes.
ReplyDeleteCool picks! I love how I'm finding more and more people who like Eric rather than that stuffy old Bill lol!!
