Banned Books Week! (+giveaway!)
I'm sure you're all aware that September 24th- October 1st is Banned Books Week. I'm telling you now, be a rebel! Read a banned book!
If you search around the lovely book blogging world right now, you'll find a wide array of events, giveaways, hops, and discussions regarding Banned Books Week. This is the week we all shall celebrate freedom of reading, and to draw attention to the harm of censorship.
I have absolute disgust over banning books and censorship. There should always be freedom in our choices on what we read. I understand the need for a parent to stop their child from reading material due to age group and rating, but once of age then there should be no qualms. To completely remove/ban a book from libraries, bookstores, etc. SHOULD NOT ever come to terms. As readers and book lovers, we shouldn't really be celebrating "Banned Books Week" every year, and I do hope that at some point in my lifetime I get the opportunity to see all banned books unbanned and this issue finally resolved.
I doubt I will, unfortunately.
To see a list of the current banned/challenged books, you can go HERE.
In honor of Banned Books Week, I've decided to host a nice giveaway I hope. It's going to be simple and to the point. No form to fill out. No long list of rules. Just know now that it's U.S. only please.
Here it is:
I will pick TWO winners to win TWO BOOKS each. That's right.
First package: Go Ask Alice by Anonymous and Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Second package: Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
The first place winner will get the first choice of which package they would like, leaving the other for the second place winner. However, should the first place winner fail to return a response to me within 48 hours, then I will give the choice to the second place winner instead (making them the first place winner and choosing a new second place). Winners will be chosen at random via Random.org
To enter, just leave a comment with your name and email.
You do not have to be a follower to enter (although it is nice!)
Tweeting will get you ONE extra entry- please leave the link in your comment.
U.S. only- Contest will end Oct. 1st at midnight central time.
Thank you and Happy Banned Books Week!

I completely agree with you! There should always be complete freedom in what we choose to read, and books should never be banned/removed from public access. It's just wrong, plain and simple. If people have issues with a book, FYI they don't have to read it so really there's no need to ban them.
ReplyDeleteAhem.. I'll stop ranting now :p
I'd like to be entered in the giveaway please :) I also Tweeted about it, here's the link:

Thank you so much, ladies, for your support and the entries. I'm sorry to say that I've decided to cancel contest due to lack of entries and interest on this one this time around. It happens, unfortunately. *hugs* Hope to see you at my upcoming BIG giveaway, though!
