Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?
I didn’t read a lot of what was considered my “age bracket” when I was a pre-teen and younger teen. Around the ages of 7-9, I read some YA like Nancy Drew and such, but shortly after, I picked up adult novels- mostly horror like Stephen King, Anne Rice or classics like Shakespeare and just read a lot of that for quite some time. It was about the age of fifteen or so, shortly after the release of Harry Potter, when I picked that up. After reading most of that series through the years, I started liking YA more and as an adult I started reading a lot into the genre. Nowadays, I read more YA than most genres. So, I guess I did a switch-a-roo as an adult.
The changes in my reading habits have probably been quite substantial since my childhood/teen years. I read a lot back then, but admittedly I probably wasn’t as diverse as I am now. I find myself now being a bit more open to other genres that I may not have read at that time. I also have learned to make a good balance in reading multiple books at once-- something I couldn’t do at all ten years ago. Haha.
I still have my preferential genres though: Fantasy/Paranormal, Horror and Historical. With a new love in the mix over the last couple of years-- Dystopian.
Happy Friday!
I remember reading Nancy drew when I was younger!
