Review: Born At Midnight

Title: Born At Midnight (Book 1 of the Shadow Falls series)
Author: C.C. Hunter
Genre: YA Fantasy

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs… --Goodreads

Almost a week after finishing “Born at Midnight” and I’m still thinking about it.
I’m already craving the second book. Must. Have. It. Soon!

“Born At Midnight” is one of my favorites so far this year. It has spunk and spark. I want to GO there.

Yes, there’s a love triangle. And perhaps many readers at this point are starting to get tired of this, but many of us also know that if it’s done right, we still enjoy that guilty pleasure. I, myself, have a hard time picking up any books as of recently that include love triangles. But here was a refreshing take on it that didn’t annoy me. I enjoyed it, and it didn’t take away from the story any bit. Thinking about it now, I can’t see this series at all without one… and might I state at this time that I’m all for Lucas. Thank you.

The characters! Each character had their own unique personality and I loved that. A few of them had been on some hard times, but I particularly liked how the author didn’t have them whiney about it. They were strong-willed, sarcastic and witty. Kylie took awhile to accept things, but it was realistic and understandable on her behalf. The writing was smooth, realistic, and beautifully detailed. The action fun and fast-paced.

I could not get enough of this book! More soon, please!

5 stars!

Questions to my readers:

Have you read this? Did you enjoy it as well? Thoughts?

If you could have any supernatural power, what would it be?

P.S. Be on the look-out for something special to come soon! ;)
