Armchair BEA: Non-Fiction

Today we're discussing Non-Fiction! And while I'm a bit late on my post, I wanted to jump in right quick and get in my few thoughts because it is something I do enjoy sometimes when it's the right type.

I admit it. I don’t read a lot of Non-Fiction. It’s not that I don’t like it. It’s just that I have enough reality in my life to deal with that I usually don’t want to pick it up and just stick with the fiction so that I can escape reality. But there are occasions where I get in my geeky moods and find myself picking up only Non-Fiction for periods of time. But I'm picky about my types of reads in this category. These reads usually consist of history in particular time periods that I'm really into or the occasional biography/memoir.

Some of my favorite Non-Fiction books include:

The Diary of Anne Frank

This book has always been in my heart, long since I read it as a young teen. I’ve re-read it countless times, and recently my step-kids have read it for the first time and it’s made its own impact on them as well.

The Soloist

It’s heartwarming, inspiring, and powerful through a simple story. I didn’t feel it was an all-amazing written piece of work, but maybe that’s why I liked it so much. The author told the story to the reader with a clear voice. I still haven’t seen the movie though. I’d like to!

Under The Black Flag

Hey, I like pirate history, too. It was fascinating and had a lot of cool facts that I hadn’t read about before until this book. Also a plethora of information on pirates like the infamous Blackbeard and others.

Non-Fiction on my Wishlist:

The Devil in the White City

What do you think of Non-Fiction? Have any favorites?

  1. I love nonfiction and I have a dozen favorites ;)

I've never heard of Under the Black Flag! I'm going to have to look into that one. I love random facts and interesting tidbits. It sounds like that book is full of those.

I see you've mentioned Devil in the White City. That's a GREAT book. Larson has another titled In the Garden of Beasts that is excellent as well.

  2. I am not a fiction reader...at all...but Under the Black Flag sounds really interesting! Even though it's non-fiction, it's still different enough from my life that I can still escape into it a bit!
