Reading Challenges and Such for 2013 (say what?)

2013 coming already? Say whaaa?!

I don’t have a lot planned going into 2013 for reading challenges. Like always, I’ll participate in the usual GR Challenge. I’m not setting my bar as high as I normally do. In fact, I’m only setting myself up with a goal in mind to read around 45 books at best for the coming year, because my plans are a bit different. I’ve decided to go for some much larger books this time around--books that will take a lot more time reading--and I’ll also be focusing a lot on writing and blogging as well. I don’t want to feel too pressured to get a certain amount of books each week/month read in order to meet that goal, so I’m setting it lower, and if I read more, great. Lol.

This coming year, I’m also planning to do a Classics Challenge. A couple other blogger friends and myself had been discussing it on Twitter, and as far as I know, I don’t think there’s any official sign-ups or anything for a Classics Challenge anywhere that I’ve found. The idea of it is pretty simple though. Pick as many as you want, make your list of the ones you’re going to read, re-reads probably count (but I’d say keep them very minimum and go for the classics you actually haven’t read yet. After all, it is a challenge, right?), and that’s about it. You’ll very likely find some new favorites along the way.

So with all that said, I’m presenting my list here of just some of the books I already own and have planned to read for 2013.

GR Reading Challenge:

The Diviners by Libba Bray
The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time #1) by Robert Jordan
Under the Dome by Stephen King
His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan

Classics Challenge (my list so far):

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Villette by Charlotte Bronte
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
The Hobbit (re-read)

Happy reading as you finish up your current challenges, and may everyone have a fantastic start to the upcoming ones as well!

I mean, really, can you believe 2013 is only a month away?? CRAY-CRAY.

  1. Hey there! Love that you do the Classcs challenge - I think I should, too but somehow I have to force myself to read classics even though most of the time I end up loving them :D

  2. I like the idea of mixing some classics in - Rebecca in particular is one I really need to get around to reading!

    1. I just said something dumb. So I'm back. To try not to do that. AND GO:

If I finish my epic book challenge this year, then from now on, I'm just going to stick a hundred or something in the GR widget and read as much as I happen to read. This is my challenge to end all challenges.
