Q: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?
It’s a toss up between the House of Night series and Shiver. Two way over-hyped series right there.
HoN is just awful in my opinion. I tried for almost three books, finished the first two and could barely make it a quarter of the way through the third, but it’s crazy hyped-up. I see where the appeal lies and I get it. Definitely not my style, though.
As for Shiver, the writing is gorgeous and I also see where the hype is with that one (I believe I’ve mentioned before that Maggie is a brilliant writer, and I do love some of her other work!), but I couldn’t see what all the talk was about with that one either.
Side note: This is kind of a given, but of course my answer is just my own personal opinion. :P
Have a wonderful bookish weekend!
Hello, just hopped by. Never read either of these. Stop by mine, I'm a new follower

Thanks
ME TOO!!! House of Night started out good... I loved the concept. Then I couldn't take the cliche teenagers and recently read the graphic novel and same thing. Shiver was like that too... I never moved on past that book.

I've only heard of Shiver. That's about werewolves right?
I liked House of Night in the beginning but I lost interest after a while. I read Shiver and it was good but didn't continue with series any further.
ReplyDeleteI Talk Books!
I totally totally totally agree with the House Of Night series! Seriously those books have nothing in them, if I may say so! Initially it seemed oh-so-good and as it got ahead and ahead, it seems to be getting boring and boring! ;) As for Shiver, I loved that!

Both of these books were Did Not Finish read for me. Just couldn't get into the stories. Old Follower.
ReplyDeleteShiver was an entertaining read, but nothing mind-blowing. I still haven't read the last book in the trilogy, but do want so this year..just to finish it. ;)

Shiver and the first few books of the House of Night were pretty good but as the next books started pouring in, you'll really lose interest.

You know, I've seen Shiver on quite a lot of posts today (but Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey have been the most mentioned). I wasn't in love with Shiver myself. I liked it, but never loved it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The House of Night books.
I've never read either of these, but I appreciate the details you gave on why you think they're over hyped.

Apparently, I am always going to comment on your blog to complain about how disappointed I've been by Maggie Stiefvater's books. I really need to read The Scorpio Races so I can figure out once and for all whether I just don't like her books or if it's only SOME I don't like.
ReplyDeleteShiver has been mentioned a few times now, I haven't heard of the other series you mentioned though.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to FF and to your blog
Thanks
