Review: Anna and the French Kiss

Title: Anna and the French Kiss
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Genre: YA Contemporary/Romance
See it at Goodreads

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris - until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.

As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near - misses end with the French kiss Anna - and readers - have long awaited?

It’s not often that I read Contemporary. I like my monsters, okay? But in the last several months I’ve found myself picking up more and more books on this side of the YA side and actually enjoying several of them. So naturally, when I kept hearing the amazing things about Anna and the French Kiss, along with a few friends’ recommendations, I just had to see for myself what all the hype was about. ;)

And enthralled I was--immediately--from the first page. Perkins told a masterful story that was realistic, with loveable characters, and I often found myself emotional right alongside them. This book was completely unputdownable. I could not stop turning the pages. I read well into the early morning hours until I finished because I just wanted to know what was going to happen next.

I can’t possibly write a long review, because I really don’t have much to say other than fantastic things. The characters are well-rounded. I adored the setting and visualizations. But what I really liked most? The pacing. This is not an insta-love romance. The characters are developed, the plot is structured, and the story flows along beautifully. Just wonderful.

I’m so glad I finally read it.

One of my new favorites. Highly recommended!

5 stars!

  2. Yay for no insta-love! And I feel like I'm going to be the last person to read this book. This year though, I swear. Great review!

  3. Last night I decided to re-read this to try and pull myself out of a reading slump. I prefer monsters, vampires and things that go bump in the night in my books! But, I have such a special place in my heart for Anna and Etienne!
