Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

Yes, I have on several occasions. The funny thing is usually when I get a book because of a bad review, in most cases, I end up liking it much more than a book I get based on a good review. Kind of odd, but that’s how it usually goes. Haha.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!

  1. Haha that is pretty weird!! I tend to have similar tastes as most of my blogger buddies, so when they all don't like something I figure I won't like it either.

    1. Lol, well normally I have similar tastes with most of my blogging buddies as well. But if I pick up a book based off of a stranger's negative review or a review from an article in a magazine, my results are almost always different it seems. So I try not to go by reviews and the critics too often, unless it's just friends' recommendations. :)

Thanks for stopping by! Sorry it took me a few days to respond though. :P

  3. No I haven't but I read usually bad/good reviews for the same book and as long as I feel I like the book I read it no matter what people say about it because every one has different way of thinking and taste in books :)

    1. That's true too. Everyone has a different opinion and tastes in reading. :) Thanks for stopping by! :)

  4. Ha! That is strange! I've never bought a book simply because of a poor review myself.

    I'm a new follower :)

    1. Thanks Megan! I don't know, sometimes curiosity gets the best of me, I guess, and if I read mostly negative reviews, but the synopsis of a book sounds like it'd be something I'm normally into reading, I can't help but to see what the hub-bub is about for myself (and if it's really as bad as the reviewers say it is probably--maybe that makes me a masochist?). :P Haha. :) Thanks for stopping by!

  5. That happens to me too! That's why I try to make up my own mind about books regardless of the review.

    1. Finally, someone I can relate with! :P Hehe.. I completely agree. If I'd skipped out on some of the books just because I'd read some "negative" reviews, I would have missed some books that turned out really good for me personally.

      Thanks for visiting! :)

  6. It's happened this way for me, as well. It's like, the more other's dislike the book, the more I am that determined to actually like it. I've always had this thing for rooting for the underdog no matter what. Then, on other occasions, it's turned out to be quite the opposite.

    1. Lol, I'm the same way, I guess. Now, I don't always like the books that I pick up when I do pick them up out of curiosity from negative reviews, but it's happened a lot. And like I said in a comment above, if I'd skipped out on some of them just because of the "negative" reviews, I would have missed some that turned out really good for me--so I just make up my own mind personally, regardless of reviews. If the book interests me, then the reviews don't matter really.

Thank you for coming by! Sorry it took a few days to reply back. Weekends get hectic on my end, so I spend my weekdays playing catch-up. :P

  7. Woow! That is odd, but I like it.
But I play it safe and only read a book when I think it is good :D
