Thank you, Ms. Caine for a vampire story in which vampires weren't the romantic interest!

Let's face it, vamps are a big part of YA nowadays, most likely due to a book that shall not be named here (I shouldn't REALLY have to name it, should I?), but I've always adored vampire stories. Some of my first major reads as a preteen was Anne Rice and Bram Stoker.  However, here lately, it's hard for me to find much good in anything recently written. I get picky quickly as plotlines can get old and overdone too often. It's rare now for me to pick up a vampire novel and read it in only a day's time because I just can't get enough of it. If memory serves correct, the only other series that has done this to me as of recent times in this genre has been The Vampire Academy series. And now that's over (sadness), I've been feeling a little bummed, hoping I could find another just as good, if not better.

The Morganville Vampires may have done just that.

I got right into this book after a friend loaned it to me, having been wanting to read it for awhile now but never really mustering up enough courage to really sit down and take the time to do so, and I was immediately sucked in from the start. Hey, sucked in. I made a pun! Ookkayy... dork moment over...

This volume is actually consisted of the first two books to the series. I found myself so entranced with the storyline and characters that I finished both, the full volume, within twenty-four hours. There were some times that I felt were a bit "cheesy" and made me giggle a bit at the action, but the overall entertainment and characterization of the story was fantastic. I adored the vampire mythos that was put into this- evil vamps, damn straight, along with other supernatural elements that I don't want to give away here due to spoilers.

There was humor and wittiness throughout that I enjoyed. Claire was a refreshing young woman that reminded me a bit of myself a lot when I was her age (and even the way I am now) with her "nerdy" ways. I really liked her character and the narration that Ms. Caine delivered throughout flowed amazingly well with gorgeous details.

I very much look forward to reading the many more installments to this series. I'm hooked for sure and will be staying in Morganville for quite awhile. :)

4.5 stars!
