The Haul (BEA Part Two and other things)

Buckle up, it's going to be a long post. This is THE HAUL.

But it's more than just my BEA Haul. I wanted to include books/ebooks I received in the last week or two as well while I was at this. And there's pics. And lots of flailing. So yeah. Let's just get the show on the road now, shall we? :D

Let me start by saying this is actually a post in relation to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga's Reviews. I don't post often with this feature, I know, but I'm pretty much making up for that right now with this one. And will try and get around to doing so more in the coming months.

I'm going to begin with the easy ones before I get to the major haul from BEA.

Okay, so there's a story to this gift. One: I love love love TMNT. Don't judge me! Two: I have been trying to find Dreams of Gods and Monsters EVERYWHERE and I just couldn't and it made me really sad. I live in the sticks. I pretty much have to order a majority of my books when I want particular ones it seems. I was on the verge of ordering this, and was going to when I got back from BEA, until Lyn (Great Imaginations) handed it to me the night before our trip. Did I mention we traveled together? Oh, well, we did. I miss her already. I nearly screamed in her face though when I saw she got these for me. Just wait until she sees what I get her.

BEA HAUL!!

I paced myself people. I didn't get as much as I thought I'd get. And I didn't get invited to any parties this year, probably because it was my first year and I don't really know anyone or have any connections. I don't know. Maybe next year? Either way, I was still extremely happy and grateful for the books I did bring in. I picked up my biggest priority books I think -- Melissa Marr, Holly Black, and Sarah J. Maas especially. I really look forward to a lot of reading over the next few weeks.

Now I can't guarantee I'll read ALL of these. I know there's been a lot of drama the last few days regarding BEA and ARCs, so I'm going to say a few quick words: When I picked up my books, I had full intention of wanting them for reading/reviewing at that moment. I was caught up in the moment. Everyone is, am I right? Now that I am at home, with a deeper, longer look at each individual book, I can see there a few in this pile I probably won't be so in to after all. When it comes down to it, I'd much rather take the few I know would be disasters for me and host a fun giveaway (in which a reader from my blog can win a cool little bundle of about 3-4 books) and pass them on to someone that would have much more interest. Ya know? That's the whole gist of an ARC anyway. Passing them around, giving them out, promoting. And that's that from me on this particular topic. Lol.

I realize I'm a little late on this post, but oh well. I needed to go ahead with it instead of waiting because I wanted to share all of the awesome goodies I've received in the last week! =D I guess you could say my shelves are groaning a bit at all the unread books starting to pile up, along with the small end table being sadly stacked upon, but OH WELL. Finding books all over the place is something I don't complain about at all (though I'd spaz easy over other messes). Haha.

The majority of this haul are birthday gifts (which had been earlier this month on the 7th) sent to me from some of my best blogging friends. <3

So many books... I don't know how I'll find the time to read these all! But I guarantee you they will be read. If not by the end of this year, during the start of next.

 

I won Shadows at LibraryThing and also won Across a Star-Swept Sea (sooo excited for this one, even though I still need to read For Darkness Shows the Stars--haha) from Goodreads.

 

Kara from Great Imaginations sent me Shine, The Age of Miracles, and Long Lankin! Eeep! Books that'd been on my top-wishlisted foreverrrr. Actually, Long Lankin and Age of Miracles had my attention because of her. They sound so good and I'm looking forward to starting one of them soon. ^_^



Christina from A Reader of Fictions sent The Innocent Mage, The Awakened Mage, and A Blight of Mages by Karen Miller. These were pleasant surprises because I had never heard of these books (so obviously they weren't on any wishlist), but they look like something I'd really enjoy. And at her trusted recommendation, too. I have to tell you, I hadn't been into a lot of epic fantasy (except for The Hobbit and few here and there through my life) up until the last couple of years. And in probably the last year, it seems that's ALL I want to read most of the time. Ha. Also. Christina is one of the reasons why I read what is now one of my favorite books ever (also epic fantasy): Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. So yes. I'm definitely excited about this set.

Also, not pictured because I don't have it here yet is Angelfall by Susan Ee. I ordered this with a giftcard that Bekka of Pretty Deadly Reviews sent (and will be receiving the book in the mail tomorrow actually). I keep hearing great things about this book so I figured it was time I go ahead and get it. =P

I wanted to share this haul last weekend, but time got away from me so I’m having to make the post later than I intended. This is my haul over the last three weeks or so and it’s been GREAT. And I’m sure there’s more to come soon. :)

I received a package a couple weeks ago from the amazing Wendy Darling of The Midnight Garden. Carnival of Souls (if you haven’t learned by now, Melissa Marr is one of my all-time faves and I try to read evvverrryything by her) and Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone have been on my wish list for some time. Really brightened my day to get these--along with some other cute and awesome swag items she included like a Midnight Garden bookmark, another bookmark and postcard. ^_^

Oh! And I met Christina from A Reader of Fictions last week (8/21). It was awesome. Look forward to seeing her again sometime. Along with many other wonderful people at BEA next year! Anyway, she gifted me this book, which I’d surprisingly hadn’t heard much about until she told me. Ha! But often, that’s how I find some of my favorites--and this one sounds really good. If it’s recommended by her, I’m pretty certain most of the time I’ll like it also.

And that's my haul as of the recent three weeks or so! How's everyone else been doing? I know my blog has been slacking a bit lately, but summer always seems to drag me down a bit with the kids' activities. Especially toward this end of summer when we're getting all of their stuff together for the upcoming school year. Ha. :) A regular schedule will resume soon, though! I'm still trying to post as often as possible and make my visits to everyone as much as I can. :D

I haven’t done a STS post in some time. Normally, I’m not a big fan of doing them for just the e-galleys I get, and since I haven’t been able to get to an actual bookstore in MONTHS to have a field day buying books, I haven’t really felt the need to share my hauls lately. Now my book ban is temporarily over and I am back to annoying my local stores. (insert evil laugh)

Yes, that’s me in the above photo in the bookstore recently. My good blogger friend at The Book Slayer made the suggestion I take a pic with my first trip going back since it’d been such a long hiatus. Haha. I really wasn’t planning to at first, but then my shopping buddy snapped it and I decided to share. By the way, I happened to be standing by one of my favorite author’s books, so it worked out (Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely just in case you were wondering.).

So yes! For a change I have a great haul in the last month (most particularly the store-bought ones in the last week) and I’m so excited to share!

In the last week and a half, I’ve bought/received/won a nice, small haul that I’m really looking forward to!

　

I bought Shatter Me and Rift during a sale while grocery shopping. This is how I get a majority of my books, by the way. I “sneak-buy” during other shopping trips. Anyway, I’d been wanting to read Shatter Me for quite a long time, and Rift has been catching my interest lately. Though I hadn’t read Cremer’s other series, I was told I should be able to read this title since it’s a bit of a prequel. Hope so! I hate being lost or reading out of order.

Also random side note: I was tweeted one day by a fellow blogger and told that I could probably be Ms. Cremer’s twin. Funny enough, that’s what made me go ahead and go pick up the book. Odd I know, but it sounds good anyway!

Won in a giveaway at LibraryThing: ARC of The Art of Wishing. This book sounds freaking adorable. I’m about to start reading it soon.

Sent to me from the author: The Master of Verona. There’s a sort-of strange story behind this one. This title was a DNF for me toward the end of last year, but it wasn’t because I disliked it. It was because I had an e-book copy from NetGalley…and for some reason, my copy wasn’t formatted well, I was reading on the computer at the time before I had an e-reader again (and it’s a 500+ page book) and I did complain that this is just a title meant to be physically read instead. I personally wanted to give it another chance later on. The author was kind enough to send me a physical copy recently, and I will do that. P.S. It’s VERY rare for me to pick up a book again after a DNF the first time, but this was an unusual case.

Well, that’s all for me! Next haul is probably going to be huge…. The Indigo Spell comes out tomorrow! OMG!

I actually feel kind of bad for this one. All it consists of are digital e-ARCs I’ve received in the last week for review because I just haven’t went out and bought anything recently. I’m on a bit of a book-buying and driving to the bookstore ban. Sad. But my decent bookstore is almost an hour away. Gas prices are high, so trips are fewer and far between at the moment. Ordering online might start getting a little more attention in the next few months.
